Manager of the Houston Astros A.J. Hinch signed a new contract with the reigning champions of the MLB World Series.
The extension of Hinch's contract extends to the 2023 season, the Astros announced Thursday.
The 44-year-old was in the final year of his contract, with a club option for the 2019 season.
"We are delighted to have AJ on the bench for several years," said the general manager of the club. the Astros, Jeff Luhnow at MLB.com.
"AJ has played a key role in our team's success and is one of the most effective managers in baseball, he is aligned with the vision of our office, has made a great connection with our players and has earned respect for everyone in the clubhouse.
"Looking to the future, our goal is to win multiple championships. AJ is undoubtedly the best administrator to help us achieve this goal. "
Hinch, who played seven years in the majors, has revitalized the Astros franchise.
Houston had four consecutive seasons of over 90 defeats when Hinch took over in 2015.
In four seasons, Hinch has a record of 353-266, and guided the Astros to their first World Series title in 2017. Their winning percentage of .570 is the highest of any manager in club history.
